Witches have played a part in human history since time began. The traditional fairy tale image of a witch is that of an old crone wearing a black hat and flying on a broomstick, often with a black cat as well. Sometimes fairy tales have good witches and these are depicted as beautiful and are often shown wearing white.
Famous wicked witches include the "Wicked Witch of the West and the Wicked Witch of the East" (Wizard of Oz) while famous good witches include "Glinda the Good Witch of the North" (Wizard of Oz) and more recently "Sabrina the Teenage Witch"
